How Adult Foster Care works

One program.

A clinical team behind you.

Adult Foster Care is a MassHealth program. A family member or friend who lives with and cares for an eligible adult is paid a tax free stipend for the daily personal care they provide. We make the program real: eligibility, caregiver training, and the monthly clinical visits MassHealth requires.

  1. 01

    We confirm eligibility

    The member has active MassHealth and needs daily help with personal care. The caregiver lives with them and is not their spouse. We confirm this with you and a registered nurse home assessment.

  2. 02

    We train the caregiver

    CPR, first aid, the member specific care plan, dementia training where it applies. The training is free and you will not be doing this alone.

  3. 03

    The clinical team visits monthly

    A registered nurse and a licensed social worker visit every month, review the care plan, check on the member, and support the caregiver. We keep the MassHealth documentation current.

  4. 04

    The caregiver is paid, tax free

    A monthly stipend goes to the caregiver: Level 1 or Level 2, up to $1,730 a month, tax free under IRS Notice 2014-7 when the caregiver lives with the member.
